Body Language
A Gym That Feels Like Family
Today I had the opportunity to interview Israel Leanos at his gym, Body Language, located inside the Coronado Tower. Oddly enough (being early January), it was a sunny and crisp day, which seemed like a forecast for the interview that was about to take place. I had never met Israel in person, but let me tell you, he’s quite the character. I was immediately greeted by Israel outside the gym and he was already laughing and talking about the gym with our other staff member. I immediately felt positive vibes and knew this would be an entertaining interview.
Catching Israel at the beginning of his workout, we decided to chat while he finished up. He began by telling us how he takes a while to get ready for the gym because he has to get in the right mindset and be prepared; he has a very specific routine prior to working out and during his workout. He also noted that he likes to make sure he takes time to pick out his gym-wear, because “If you look good, you train good.” This is an awesome tip that all gym newbies can follow!
We then got into more details about Body Language gym and the types of clients he has. I was curious if there was a specific demographic that he noticed attended the gym; for example, body builders, lifestyle clients, or another category. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that he has quite the mix of clients there. He elaborated by telling me that they have a range of clients from weight loss, to strength training, endurance, stamina, mobility, and more, with trainers specializing in the different categories to help clients reach their goals based on their individual needs. Israel also spoke about how the personal training packages offer customized meal plans and body mass index tracking to help accelerate client results.
Not only is Body Language clean and aesthetic, the staff and overall energy is just uplifting. Israel goes on to discuss how he likes for people to feel safe and welcomed in his gym, since gyms can tend to be an intimidating atmosphere for many. This feeling of being welcomed is familiar to Israel because when he was first starting out his fitness career, Walter Cupa, another fitness professional, took him under his wing, offering guidance and even transferring some of his clients to Israel to help him get going; Israel reflects on this memory positively. Overall, he feels that Body Language is unique because they provide a big gym family feel for their staff and clients.
